This application showcases ON’s NFC/RF EEPROM family with Energy Harvesting.
It is designed to interface with a credit-card-size demo card that hosts N24C04E, a dual interface (RF and I2C) EEPROM with Energy Harvesting, and N34TS108, a low voltage digital temperature sensor.
The Energy Harvesting function allows the N24C04E to redirect the surplus energy captured from the smartphone’s RF field to an analog supply output that powers the temperature sensor and the on-board microcontroller. No battery is needed to power the application.
The microcontroller reads the temperature from the sensor and updates the content of the memory with this information via the I2C bus.
The information in the EEPROM is written in NDEF format, which allows cross platform compatibility.
